New Home Completed

Happy Sunday Everyone.  I hope you have all had a great weekend.  I was able to get out to the new house we’ve built in the neighborhood we are developing and I wanted to share some photos of the finished product with you.

We decided to build this house on one of the more awkward lots in the neighborhood because we would have some control over fencing being added and landscaping to reshape this lot.  It turned out nicely leaving a nice big fenced in backyard.

Outside View of House

This house is two stories but the upstairs is currently unfinished.  The back has a small screened in porch that will be nice for sipping sweet tea untouched by bugs in the Summer! The garage is detached with a nice walkway to and from the porch into the house.

Downstairs Floor Plan

Here is a quick little look at the floor plan to give you an idea of the space.  The stairs in this house are closed off and the upstairs is completely unfinished, it would make a great bonus or game room or keep it like it is for lots of storage.

Here are some shots of the main floor interior.

Kitchen, Dining, Living

The living room, kitchen and dining area are all open to each other.  It feels like a nice big space.  The hardwood floors are one of my favorite features.  They are wide plank pine, stained dark and they feel so warm and inviting.

Hallway to Laundry

The next area is a short hallway area that leads to all the bedrooms, the guest bath, and laundry room in the back of the house.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom and bathroom attached are nice big spaces.  The master bath features a big walk in tile shower with a double vanity sink.  My second favorite part of this house is the big walk in closet.

Quick little tour, cute little house.  We are expected to close on this house January 14th.  We have had some recent interest from a buyer but are a little unsure if things will work out.  As of now, unless things change quickly we are planning to move in after closing.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

New Construction is Coming Along….Quick!

Hey! Sorry it’s been a while, life continues to be as busy as ever.  I wanted to give you a quick update on the new house.  They are moving right along with construction, almost at a scary fast pace.  I stopped by today to get some pictures but it was almost dark before I got there  and so I only have an outside shot.

They have drywall up now so you can see the rooms, but no pictures because it was so dark.

Just wanted to update you all.  Catch up here on the previous news.

Living Quarters

I need a house ya’ll, my own house.  These days I feel like I am going stir crazy.  I yearn to decorate to move little trinkets around the house and rearrange.  I miss my stuff!  It has been especially hard this time of year as my favorite holiday rolls by unnoticed and undecorated….BOO!

We all have our challenges, mine are insignificant.

It has been nice not having a lot of cleaning and living with family has its benefits but I miss the stuff, my stuff.  I miss piddling=working on furniture painting, crafty things, changing accessories, seasonal decorating and organizing cabinets.

The point is I bore easily and change things in my home often.  I would have brought way more stuff on this move to decorate with but that would have been unnecessary.  It’s only a few months and I can make it.   So here is a look into our current living quarters.

We are very lucky to have our own space.  My Mother and Father in law have graciously allowed us to live with them temporarily while we build a new house in the neighborhood.  If we sell that house we will get out of their hair and rent something for a while.

Here is a look at our bedroom.  Very cozy…mainly the bed, it’s a full size.  I’m pretty sure I want a king size bed after this!

This room is an L shape and what used to be a sitting room is now our walk in closet.

We have our own bath and it’s pretty big but…

we have a pedestal sink to share and…

we are sharing with our two cats and I am ready for them to have their own space again too.

The bathroom is in between two bedrooms, ours and the other seen here.

See that couch, well in front is our very own TV, so we have a little living room and just beside that couch is our office nook.

This bedroom has a small closet which we have stored odds and ends and the rest of Will’s clothes.

At the top of the stairs is a nice little landing which gives us space for a small table to throw keys, purse etc. when coming home from work and it also give the cats another little space for toys.

It is a great space and it gives us room to spread out and allows us some privacy.

So there you have it that’s where we are now and that is why decorating post have gone way down.  It’s life moving forward, hopefully after the New Year we will be in our own space.

Oh, I almost forgot the best part….

The view

I could sit there for a long while…wish it was still Summer.

Moved Again, Yes it Happened!

I’ve been keeping a little secret from you all.  We received an offer on our new home in the Glen Iris neighborhood that we are developing and we have already closed on the sale and moved!  Wow, that happened fast!  We closed exactly 2 months from the day we moved in the house.
We were very excited to have an offer, but we had 2 previous offers on the house that fell through so that is why I kept quite.  The buyer had a very short closing period so we didn’t have to wait long.
We have packed everything up in PODS and are storing it for a while.  We are currently living with family since we needed a spot temporarily.
Our plans are to build another home in the neighborhood and we will try and sell that one too.  We need to sale lots and continue to do whatever necessary to sale the whole development out.  It should be an interesting remainder to the year…but the good news is, land is starting to move!
I hope to continue to share furniture projects with you as well as some decorating projects my Mom is currently working on.
It feels so weird not having my own home to decorate, but I will make the best of it and hopefully it won’t be long before I can start over with something new.

Moving ?!?

I promised to fill you in on the possiblilty of us moving, so here goes. Stay with me, it is a looooong story. When I started this blog a few months ago it was not a possibility and I had hoped to really work hard on projects and home decorating to blog about. But as the blog name goes, home & garden + LIFE, things change.

Four years ago we decided to purchase a piece of land to subdivide and develop into a neighborhood. Will is a civil engineer and he wanted to try developing and we both felt it would be a good investment for our future and hopefully be something that we enjoyed enough to turn around and do another after the first one was sold.

About 3-6 months after we purchased the economy really started to tank, and the home building industry was hit hard. We tried to flip the land at first and just re-sale for a little profit, after a few more months passed we went ahead with plans to have the land divided, roads built, and electrical lines put in. A neighborhood was born, Glen Iris, and we were developers!

At this point we were ready to sell off individual lots to builders...so the subdivision was listed and since then we have waited and waited and waited...a few bites, but no takers. Builders are interested but cannot get loans from the banks to build. So we waited longer and hoped things would get better. We are still waiting....

Now we've decided to bite the bullet again and build a house on the land to get the neighborhood started. Our hopes are that if we build it they will come(it worked in the movies), that is builders or homeowners looking to build new.

Here is our lot....

We hope to start building in a few weeks. As soon as ground is broken our current house will go on the market. Here's the maybe part...we will also try to sell the new home. If the new home sells we stay put, if our current house sells first we move. We really are not sure what will happen. There are restrictions on listing a new construction house while it is under construction so we have a better chance of selling our current home, but there are also several homes for sell in our neighborhood giving us more competition. I just pray something sells and praying that however it works out, it is the right plan for us.

We are still very excited to see what this neighborhood becomes. We still believe it is a good investment and the location is great.

We have chosen Grey Heron Construction to build our home and hope that they will continue to build more in the neighborhood along with other interested builders. Grey Heron builds fantastic low country style homes and we are happy to have them on board! The homes in this neighborhood will be very similar in style to the homes they currently build but they will be able to offer more affordable homes to prospective buyers.

We will put our current house on the market in a few weeks. Soon there will be lots of new home ideas!
