Vanity

Loving all the furniture projects I’ve been working on lately.  I should probably be working on finishing up some rooms in the house first but I’ve had furniture in storage that’s been waiting for paint for 6 months and it’s been keeping me busy. 
With this vanity I found a great color combination that I will definitely use again.  This one is painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in colors French Linen and Aubusson Blue. 

A friend was looking for a vanity and she liked the style of this one.  She knew she wanted something neutral but with a pop of color, after looking at some of my other furniture projects she picked the two colors and I decided how to paint the piece.  She was however, 100% sure she did not want yellow!

I didn’t have a matching chair for this piece but picked one up recently from a local thrift store that did the trick.

This piece went through a few changes as I went along, here is a little more on the Journey.

After painting I originally left the pulls gold and the inside (at mirror) grey.  I made a few changes at my friend’s request to paint the inside blue and change the pulls to silver.  Abbie really wanted to be in these pictures to say hi…


Here you can see the original pulls in gold, I really liked the gold on this piece, typically not a huge gold fan but I thought they fit the piece.  My friend preferred silver so I changed them with Rub n Buff (which I love to use!!).  Rub N Buff makes it so easy to change the look of knobs and pulls and its also really great for accents on frames as well.

What do you like best, Silver or Gold? I loved the gold, but the silver looks great too! Rub N Buff lets a little gold peek out which creates nice texture and shadows giving a more expensive look than spray paint.

My little confession is that I originally loved the gold so much I planned to replace the knobs completely but the size of these are smaller than normal sizes and I was unable to find any that worked.  I do really love the style of these on the piece so they should stay with it and the silver is perfect. 

Also isn’t that chair way better now?!? Whew, that brown paint was gross!  I had planned to leave the seat fabric as is only to let my friend pick out her own fabric, and she still can,  but I found these napkins and World Market and thought the colors were great so in 5 minutes I I had a new seat.  Yes, cloth napkins!  Cheap way to recover a seat!
I love the color combo on this one, overall it looks feminine as a vanity should but neutral enough for any space. 
Looking forward to seeing it in its permanent home.

Guest Bath

I thought it was about time to show you guys a room that is finished  here in the new house.  I don’t know why but I can’t seem to focus on one room long enough to get things complete so I started with the smallest room in the house, the Guest Bath. 

It was feeling a little dreary with my old navy shower curtain.

I was inspired by my black and white daffodil pictures to add yellow to this room.

I spent very little money and time on brightening this room up.  I just added the shower curtain and new hand towels along with the little rug.

I was able to use this very old ashtray as a decorative soap dish.

And my splurge was this new soap holder from Target.

I will admit the yellow was shocking at first but now I’ve gotten used to it and I love the cheerfulness.

I also realize I should have steamed the curtain before these photos…but who has the time!

Oh and the new rug is so cushy and cat approved!

China Cabinet Reveal

I am so excited to share my latest furniture project with you!  This china cabinet has patiently been waiting in the wings storage for a makeover and new home.  It was the first thing I wanted to tackle when we settled into the new house and I have really grown to love the colors.
I asked readers that follow along on Facebook what colors they thought  I should paint this piece and overwhelmingly they choose the light grey with the blue green.  AKA Maison Blanche’s Silver Mink & Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Duck Egg.  I said I would paint the majority of the piece in the color but in the end I switched that combination.

I’ll be honest,  I was not loving the colors when I first finished but then I waxed it and tried something new and it looks fabulous.  I used ASCP in Graphite and mixed with clear wax for the top layer and the details really popped!



I first sanded the edges for a little detail distressing then I applied clear wax to the entire piece.  To add the darker wax mix I used a foam brush to apply.  This allowed me to get the wax in the small grooves and brush on a thin top layer over the entire piece, buffing as I went.
Unfortunately the glass on the door broke during moving so I still need to add glass to the door or possibly chicken wire, still pondering that decision but I just had to show you guys.

It really looked nice after I cleaned it up good, really pretty piece and nice dark stain.

However, it needed a bit of repair work  and the finish was not in great shape so painting was needed to make it look complete.

First had to pull all the duck tape off the drawer and glue it back together properly. Please don’t use duck tape to “fix” furniture!  It sticks really well and yes, it holds, but leaves a mess.

There was also molding missing on one side that needed repair. I found the closest thing to the original and glued another piece to that to make it look similar in size.  It isn’t perfect but it was pretty close and painted you really don’t notice.  

I was super excited to try Maison Blanche paint for the first time.  I really love the colors and Silver Mink was the first color I purchased to try out.

This piece has really grown on me in our home and it has a coastal vibe with these colors that I really love.

This piece unleashed my desire to paint, paint, paint!  I have a ton of stuff in the garage I am in the middle of working on and I can’t wait to share those projects soon.  For now, I will sit and enjoy this new beauty!

Easter Wreath

It’s cold in NC today so I decorated with Easter wreath’s I made this week to welcome Spring. 

This was so easy to make.  I purchased the grape vine wreath and fake flowers at Wal-Mart.  I had extra décor eggs and moss from Michael's craft store.  I just arranged and hot glued everything down. 

It was so easy I made a mini one for inside too.

I realized after downloading this photo, I should probably clean that mirror! Yikes!

I used a trick I saw on Pinterest to hang this.  Just take a 3M removable hook and hang it upside down.  I just cut a little hole in the ribbon and it’s done.

Are you guys excited about Spring and Easter?  I love Easter, I think it is my 2nd favorite holiday to Halloween!  This year I get to share my Birthday weekend with it.  I’ll turn a year older the day before but it will be great spending both with family!
